“Entrepreneurship and Innovation” Seminar in Maribor

Students from the Mediterranean region will gather for MedNet’s Seminar and Board Meeting from 2 November to 7 November in Maribor Slovenia. MedNet’s Seminar and Board Meeting focus on Youth and more specifically on Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the broader framework of Youth employability.

MedNet’s member, SSU is hosting students from the Mediterranean region and is bringing together students from sixteen student organizations over thirteen countries.

MedNet has already been very active in issues regarding Youth employability. In fact, the Network has been the main partner of the Seminar « The Integration of the Young People in the Mediterranean Region » that was held in Ayia Napa, Cyprus in June 2012. This week-end’s seminar and Board Meeting are the continuation of Mednet’s involvement in Youth employability. As students and future employees, employability is on the forefront of MedNet’s agenda.

Students will participate in various activities such as workshops and discussion to design solutions to youth unemployment. Therefore, the focus in this event is set on Entrepreneurship and Innovation as a way to think employment differently in times when unemployment increases drastically and reaches today more than 22% in the European Union.

Entrepreneurship and innovation is an important issue for MedNet as it serves 2 purposes. First entrepreneurship empowers people by allowing them to fulfil their potential. Entrepreneurs are mostly considered as self-driven individuals who thrive to transform the society they live in. Therefore, entrepreneurs are an essential part of the society’s evolution. Moreover education and training is recognized to enhance entrepreneurship behaviour, which is the reason that drives MedNet to act in favour of it.

Entrepreneurship is also considered as a mean to build one’s own employment. This topic being one of MedNets main priorities, MedNet’s actions are designed to foster awareness about entrepreneurship skills and behaviour.
